Is This Your Life… or Is This Your Job?

What Heaven Told Me About Why We Are Here
One of the most fascinating conversations I ever had with someone in spirit happened during the writing of my book Miles Away: The Notes of My Brother’s Journey into Heaven.
My Aunt Janet came through with a perspective about life on Earth that completely changed how I see the struggles we face here.
She said something simple, but profound:
Being born on Earth is like winning a lottery in Heaven.

At first, that idea surprised me. Most of us spend at least part of our lives wishing things were easier. We question our circumstances, our hardships, and sometimes even our purpose.
But according to Heaven, simply being here is an incredible opportunity.
Not every soul chooses to come to Earth.
And when they do, it is not random.
It is intentional.
Life on Earth Is More Like a Job Than We Realize
My Aunt Janet explained something else that I have never forgotten.
She said that life on Earth is a little more like a job than we might think.
Each day we wake up and go to work—not necessarily at a career, but at the deeper work of the soul.
We work at learning.
We work at loving.
We work at growing into the person our soul came here to become.
The circumstances of our lives—our families, our challenges, our successes, and even our heartbreak—become the tools we work with.
Some days are easier than others.
Some lessons feel impossibly hard.
But according to the souls I speak with in Heaven, none of it is meaningless.
You Are Not Doing This Alone
Another thing Heaven consistently shows me is that no one comes to Earth alone.
We arrive with what is often called a soul group—a group of souls who have agreed to share experiences together.
These may be:
Family members
Friends
Partners
Even people who challenge us deeply
Each person plays a role in helping us learn what our soul came here to understand.
Sometimes those roles are loving and supportive.
Other times, they are difficult and complicated.
But from the perspective of Heaven, every interaction becomes part of the larger picture of growth.
Even the Hard Paths Are Honored in Heaven
One of the most moving things I have learned from communicating with those in spirit is this:
The harder the life path, the more respect the soul receives in Heaven.
Souls who take on difficult experiences—loss, illness, complicated relationships, or emotional hardship—are not viewed as unlucky.
They are viewed as courageous.
My Aunt Janet explained that souls who take on these “hard courses” are often commended for their willingness to learn through challenging experiences.
From Heaven’s perspective, those lives are not failures.
They are achievements.
Your Higher Self Knows Why You Are Here
While we may forget our purpose when we are born, our higher self never forgets.
Your higher self understands:
Why you chose this lifetime
What lessons you hoped to learn
What love you came here to experience or give
The journey of life is often about rediscovering that deeper understanding.
Sometimes it happens through joy.
Sometimes it happens through challenge.
But every experience adds to the wisdom of the soul.
So Why Do You Think You Are Here?
One of the most beautiful questions we can ask ourselves is this:
What do I think my soul came here to learn?
Maybe it is patience.
Maybe forgiveness.
Maybe courage.
Maybe simply learning how to love more deeply.
Whatever your answer might be, your life has meaning far beyond what we can always see from the human perspective.
And according to Heaven, the fact that you chose to be here at all is something truly remarkable.
What do you think your soul came here to experience or learn in this lifetime?
I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
And if you would like to learn more about the messages I received from Heaven during the writing of my book, you can explore Miles Away: The Notes of My Brother’s Journey into Heaven, where many of these conversations are shared.
